About Caroline Dunn Design

My reason for setting up Caroline Dunn Design was to provide an accessible, professional and impartial independent design company. I provide a highly personalised service, with an emphasis on providing straightforward, honest advice and information. As my interest is in designing your kitchen or bathroom, rather than selling you my products, you are assured of getting what YOU want rather than what a salesman wants you to buy.

Independent kitchen and bathroom design

Independent designers offer a different way of getting a new kitchen or bathroom. There are several ways in which we differ from a designer based in a shop or showroom.

^

Independent designers work directly for the client, not for the retailer.

^

Independent designers aren’t selling anything other than our time, knowledge and skill.

^

We can produce designs using products from any source and any price level.

^

The design belongs to you, the client, so you can study it at your leisure and make all of the changes you would like before committing to buy anything.

^

An independent designer will provide you with a full design pack including dimensioned drawings and a detailed product list so you can get like-for-like quotations and source your project from the most competitive suppliers.

^

Independent designers charge a fee for our work. However this is upfront and transparent rather than being hidden in a quotation for products, and is more than covered by the savings you can make through savvy sourcing of your products.

Is an independent designer right for me?

Not everyone will want to pay for an independent design. There are numerous companies who offer free designs and many people are happy to follow that route. It is understandable however, that very few companies will give out detailed designs and product specifications until the client pays a deposit, and those who do give away their work for free will not be able to spend a great deal of time and effort getting the design absolutely right. Ultimately neither option is really in the client’s best interest which is why more and more people are choosing to use an independent designer.

Independent design may be the better option if you fall into any of these categories:-

^

You want a very personalised bespoke design that a joiner or cabinetmaker can build for you.

^

You are planning an extension or new build property, and want to get the important designs sorted before you instruct your builders.

^

You have a builder who can supply and install but they don’t have the time or resources to provide a detailed design.

^

You dislike being sold to or being put under pressure to buy.

^

You want to buy from a trade supplier or online retailer who doesn’t offer a design service.

^

You don’t have time to shop around numerous retailers.

^

You want to be in a strong position to negotiate a good discount.

^

You have been unimpressed with free designs that you have received.

^

You are a “DIYer” or self-builder who is very capable of sourcing and installing your own products but need a design and product specification.

^

You want to shop around and get competitive like-for-like quotations before paying a deposit.

^

You don’t know what is possible within your budget.

^

You have a tight budget and want to get the best possible value for money.

^

You don’t want to be restricted to buying from just one source.

^

You want to hand your project over to a professional who can design, source and manage your entire project.

You hopefully now have lots of questions about whether independent kitchen and bathroom design is right for you. Please take a look at the SERVICES pages where I explain how it all works and how much it costs, or alternatively just pick up the phone and ask me!

About Me

In 2002 I qualified as a mature student with a HND in 3D Spatial and Interior Design.

Since then I have worked as a kitchen and bathroom designer, initially gaining experience with companies including Winchmore Kitchens, Hobsons Choice, and Bespoke Kitchen Design, and for the last five years as an independent freelance designer. This experience has given me a wide knowledge of the marketplace ranging from handmade bespoke furniture, prestigious international brands such as Bulthaup and Villeroy & Boch, through to mainstream high street products.

I work from a small office in my home in Stroud, Gloucestershire and use Vectorworks for my drawings, a professional 2D architectural and 3D modelling software system used by top architectural and design practices around the world.

Over the past thirteen years I have been honoured that many clients have put their trust in me to help them achieve the fabulous kitchen or bathroom to which they may have aspired for many years.

If you think I may be able to help you with your project please do get in touch.
